SBO REPORT:As Dale Earnhardt Jr. runs out of gas on final lap, Brad Keselowski breezes by for Las Vegas winsbo, sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief Steve Letarte   sbobet  said his driver was about a half-lap short on fuel. Damned if he wasn’t about right.

Junior’s car burped coming off of turn two while leading on the final lap of Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas and Brad Keselowski took advantage for his first win of the season.

The burp was small, but it was noticeable enough for Junior to pull to the inside on the backstretch and allow Keselowski to sail by. By the time the car picked up fuel again, Keselowski was too far gone into turn three.

Even if there wasn’t a burp, the battle for the win wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Junior’s car was out of fuel officially off of turn four.

“We weren’t going to run first or second had we not stayed out on that strategy,” Junior said. “We knew we were a lap short and we tried to save as much as we could. We got it to about a half a lap and  sbobet  it ran out off of two there.”

That strategy Junior refers to is the decision by Letarte to stay out when the race’s final caution flag flew with 42 laps to go. While the rest of the field came in to top off their fuel tanks, Letarte and Junior elected to stay out to try to stretch the fuel.

Junior had run in the top 10 all day, but with the Daytona 500 win already notched, he and Letarte wanted to go for more bonus points in the Chase. And besides, why not? Staying out was a strategy that worked for Matt Kenseth last year. After a late caution at almost the same point in the race at this one, Kenseth elected not to take tires and he held off Kasey Kahne for the win.

(While Junior says the new Chase format was the catalyst for his team’s gamble, we have wonder that based on past history at Vegas if a long winless  sbobet  drought would make Letarte and Junior want to go for the win. They’ve gambled on fuel mileage before.)

But much like how Kenseth’s win over Kahne was in doubt until the final corner, the race between Junior and Keselowski was setting up to be as well if it wasn’t for Junior’s gas tank running dry. Keselowski had slowly chipped away at the interval separating the two drivers over the final 20 laps and had pulled up alongside of Junior with four laps to go.

“We needed to put pressure on Dale and not let him get into fuel-save mode,” Keselowski said. “Because as you could tell, he was really close.”

But not close enough for the win, though Junior now has two second place finishes to go along with the Daytona 500 win in the first three races. And Keselowski isn’t too far behind. He finished third in the  sbobet  Daytona 500 and at Phoenix, and trails Junior by a point in the standings.

SBO REPORT:Healthy Detwiler tries to regain starting spot

SBO REPORT:Healthy Detwiler tries to regain starting spot

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

Ross Detwiler is back after an  sbo  injury-filled 2013 season. The question is whether he can grab a spot in the rotation.

Detwiler is trying to earn the No. 5 spot this spring. Washington’s already got Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann and Doug Fister as starters, and the question is whether Detwiler can return to his 2012 form.

The left-hander went 2-7 with a 4.04 ERA last year and didn’t make any appearances after July 3 due to back problems. He made his first start since then on Monday in spring training, giving up four runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings in a 4-2 loss  sbo  to the Yankees.

“I had a tough time slowing myself down out there,” Detwiler said in The Washington Post. “I was just kind of a little over-amped. In those situations, you need to step back and slow yourself down quite a bit. I didn’t do a great job of that.”

He missed the second half of last season due to a herniated disk in his back, but Detwiler said he’s feeling fine now.

Detwiler has shown in the past he can be a solid starter. He went 10-8 in 33 games (27 starts) two years ago   sbo  and pitched effectively at times last year despite his record.

He was really one of the team’s most pleasant surprises two years ago. The question now is whether he can get back to that level once more.

NOTES, QUOTES

–RHP Stephen Strasburg also made his first appearance of the spring. He threw two scoreless innings Tuesday in a loss vs. the Braves. The right-hander struck out one and allowed one hit in his first mound appearance since surgery last fall.

–SS Zach Walters got off to a very fast start this spring. He hit the team’s first homer in the 4-2 loss to the Yankees and boasted an .857 average (6 of 7) after the first four games.

–CF Denard Span showed some offensive punch in the opening  sbo  spring training contests. He went 3-for-6 with two steals in his first two games. Span had a very strong second half of the season in 2013, and the Nationals hope he can keep rolling this year.

–RF Jayson Werth was scheduled to play for the first time in Wednesday’s game. Werth’s been out due to a bicep strain. He missed the Nationals’ first five games.

–LF Bryce Harper returned on Tuesday after missing two days due to flu symptoms. He was out Sunday and Monday and then went 0-for-2 with one walk and a run scored in the loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

–LHP Mike Gonzalez signed a minor-league contract and got an invitation to the major league camp. He’ll be  sbo  fighting for a bullpen spot.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “They had a good offseason. They definitely got better. You never expect to run away with it. They obviously got better, so we’re going to have to play better.” — Braves OF Justin Upton, on the Nationals in The Washington Post.

SBO REPORT:Zimmermann sharp as Nationals top Braves 16-15

SBO REPORT:Zimmermann sharp as Nationals top Braves 16-15

7

Jordan Zimmermann breezed  sbo  through two shutout innings with only 20 pitches for the Washington Nationals in what turned into a wild, 16-15 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

Zimmermann, who tied for the NL lead with 19 wins last season, gave up one hit and struck out one in his brief appearance.

The right-hander had a lot of success with his changeup last year and was pleased with the pitch on Saturday, particularly in the first inning when he got Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman to ground out.

Zimmermann seemed to surprise Freeman by throwing a changeup on a 1-0 count.

”He kind of looked at me like, ‘Really? We’re starting this  sbo  already?”’ Zimmermann said. ”It got to 3-2 and I figured it was the last thing he was looking for. I threw a pretty good one. It was up a little bit, but he rolled it over I got a groundball, so it was good.”

Atlanta and Washington combined for 31 runs on 37 hits, including 11 doubles. There were six errors, five by Washington, and a combined 14 walks.

Mike Fontenot drove in four runs and Tyler Moore had three RBIs for the Nationals.

Jordan Schafer went 3 for 3 and doubled twice for Atlanta. Matt Lipka had three hits and four RBIs.

The scoring came mostly in the middle innings. It was 2-all after the third, and 16-15 after the sixth.

The Braves got nine runs in the top of the fifth to take a 14-6 lead, but the Nationals rallied with five runs each in the  sbo  bottom of the fifth and sixth innings – while only getting three hits.

Braves: Julio Teheran threw two scoreless innings, striking out one and giving up two hits while tossing 30 pitches, 21 for strikes. He was particularly happy with his slider, which he used to strike out Anthony Rendon in the first inning.

”It was exciting to come back on the mound and do what I expect – just throw strikes,” Teheran said. ”In the offseason I’ve been trying to (perfect) my curveball and my slider. I think this year is going to be different because of the all the experience with my slider.”

TRAINER’S ROOM

Braves: Outfielder Justin Upton is expected to play Sunday   sbo  against the Astros. He felt soreness in his right side and was scratched just before last Wednesday’s spring opener against Houston.

”It was nothing major, and we wanted to keep it nothing major,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Catcher Gerald Laird, who has been experiencing back spasms, is expected to play either Sunday or Monday.

SPRING DEBUTS SET

Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth will play his first game of the spring on Sunday, when right-hander Doug Fister takes the the mound for his new team against the Miami Marlins.

Manager Matt Williams announced lefty Ross Detwiler will start Monday’s road game against the Yankees.   sbo  Righty Stephen Strasburg will make his first spring start on Tuesday against the Braves.

PRAISE FOR WILLIAMS

Gonzalez expects good things from Washington’s new skipper.

”I think he’ll make a damn good manager, I really do,” Gonzalez said of Williams. ”I don’t know him at all. I’ve been around him at third base when I coached third and he played third. Pretty intense man.”

”When he started coaching, he was real cordial, really professional guy. I think he’s a no-nonsense type of guy. Knows the fundamentals. Plays the game the right way. When he was a player, it seemed like he held his teammates accountable for stuff,” he said. ”I suspect that will transfer over as a manager, which is a good  sbo  trait to have.”

SBO REPORT:Match Play future up in the air

SBO REPORT:Match Play future up in the air

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

During a 7 1/2-minute chat with reporters   SBOBET  on the Match Play Championship future, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem used the word ”change” only once when he said, ”I wouldn’t assume we’re going to change at this point.” On two occasions he said, ”I wouldn’t rule out anything.”

Glad to get that cleared up.

The future depends largely on whether – or how quickly – the tour can find a title sponsor to replace Accenture. A sponsor would have a lot of input on where it was played. While the players were not fond of Dove Mountain, Accenture loved being at The Ritz-Carlton.

Colombia remains a big part of the discussion. It’s critical for golf to make a good first impression in the Olympics in 2016 – the IOC decides in 2017 whether to keep it on the program beyond 2020 – and getting South American fans acclimated to the highest level of golf wouldn’t hurt.

The Match Play Championship hasn’t left the U.S. since  SBOBET  it went to Australia in 2001 and 28 players didn’t show up. That was mainly because it was held so close to the holidays. Then again, there is concern a move out of the country would keep some players (most Americans) from going.

Thomas Bjorn noted the absence last week of Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson and said, ”You’ve got to be careful that you don’t put it out where more guys say no. It’s a big deal that they’re not here. If it goes to Colombia, you still get 90 percent of the guys. And you’ll be missing a few.

”Tiger and Phil not here matter this week,” he said. ”Any World Golf Championship, if they’re not teeing it up, loses the feel of a big event. The tour needs to speak to them.”

The only hint Finchem   SBOBET  offered was that the tour would not be inclined to take the Match Play to an existing market, citing La Costa (20 miles from Torrey Pines) as an example. Tucson is not out of the picture, though Dove Mountain is most likely out. Finchem noted how such a large property kept down the energy (noise) level.

Finchem also said this would be a good time to ”dust it off and see if there’s a better way to do it” when asked about the format. A sponsor and TV might prefer a model where players are guaranteed at least a couple of days, and one plan getting the most attention is 36 holes of stroke play to qualify for match play.

He hopes to have a solution in the next month or so.

GOOD RETURNS: A year ago, the only way Jordan Spieth could   SBOBET  get into a PGA Tour event was through help of a sponsor’s exemption. By the end of the year, he was a PGA Tour winner and regarded as one of the rising stars in golf.

He has a two-year exemption. He is No. 12 in the world ranking. He’s in all four majors. He has the Ryder Cup on his mind.

And he has a balancing act in his sophomore season.

Spieth can set his own schedule, but he also wants to honor the tournaments that gave him his start.

”I’m going to do both,” the 20-year-old Texan said. ”I love playing in my home state. But it’s a fine line of not playing every event and owing back to those who helped me get here. If I end up playing a lot of golf, I’ll be OK. I’m young.”

He hasn’t determined his schedule going forward. Spieth already has played Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach  SBOBET  , two tournaments that gave him exemptions a year ago (he loves Pebble Beach, anyway). He got his biggest break by tying for second in Puerto Rico, but that’s the same week as the World Golf Championship in Doral for which he’s eligible.

Spieth played 23 tournaments last year. He expects that number to be at least 25 this season. The only events he didn’t play last year for which he now is eligible are the Masters, The Players Championship, U.S. Open and Bridgestone Invitational.

”The best advice I got was from Zach Johnson,” Spieth said. ”He told me to make sure I had a two-week break somewhere.”

REDEMPTION: Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but two players who had become regulars on U.S. teams are off to good starts this year after being left off the Presidents Cup team last fall at Muirfield Village – Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.

Johnson talked about the motivation of being at home when he won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Since then, he tied for sixth at Kapalua and was  SBOBET  runner-up in consecutive weeks at Pebble Beach and Riviera.

Watson wasn’t even considered as a captain’s pick for Muirfield Village. In his last three events, he was runner-up in Phoenix, won at Riviera and reached the third round of Match Play.

”It motivates you watching it on TV,” Watson said. ”I had the second worst year since I’ve been on tour, so I knew what I needed to do. Bad golf motivates me.”

SBO REPORT:Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist wins LPGA Thailand

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

Anna Nordqvist won the LPGA Thailand   sbo  on Sunday to end a five-year victory drought, holding off top-ranked Inbee Park at Siam County Club.

Nordqvist, the LPGA Championship and LPGA Tour Championship winner in 2009, led wire-to-wire. The 26-year-old Swede closed with a 4-under 68 to beat defending champion Park by two strokes.

“I’m speechless to be honest,” Nordqvist said. “It’s been a couple years since I won. I’ve been working very hard. Had my ups and downs. Just couldn’t be happier to be here. It was such a hard push on the back nine.”

Nordqvist finished at 15-under 273 on the Pattaya Old Course. Park, making her first start of the year, had a  sbo  bogey-free 66. The South Korean player won six times last year.

“I feel good,” Park said. “Today, my ball-striking wasn’t as good as yesterday. I putted better than yesterday. So I feel like my putter is coming back. I played one shot better than last year and didn’t win. Still a very good result. Tells me I improved a little.”

Scotland’s Catriona Matthew was third at 11 under after a 65, and Michelle Wie was 10 under after a 69.

“Inbee kept making birdies and Michelle was playing great,” said Nordqvist, four strokes ahead of Park and Wie entering the round. “I couldn’t really breathe until the last putt, so obviously I could just let go on the last putt.”

Wie cut the lead to one with a three-stroke swing on the par-4 fifth hole. Nordqvist had a double bogey on the hole and Wie made a birdie.

Nordqvist rebounded with a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 7 to extend  sbo  her lead two shots. She birdied five of the first seven holes on the back nine to open a three-stroke lead and closed with a bogey on the par-5 18th.

“I just really had to stay strong,” Nordqvist said.

Projected to jump to 14th in the world ranking, Nordqvist changed equipment and started working with instructor Jorje Parada during the offseason after considering leaving the tour.

“I surround myself with great people and friends and family,” Nordqvist said. “I have a great coach that really inspired me the last couple months, couple weeks, just to believe in myself and keep going no matter what. It was a grind this offseason, but sitting here with the trophy it was well worth it.”

Yani Tseng, the winner in   sbo  2011 and 2012, had a 66 to tie for fifth at 9 under with Stacy Lewis (66), Lexi Thompson (68), Gerina Piller (66) and Julieta Granada (69). Lewis has 13 straight top-10 finishes, three off the LPGA Tour record set by Karrie Webb in 2000.

SBO REPORT:Slovakia stops embarrassing itself thanks to defense, third-string goalie

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

Slovakia was 0-2-0 heading into Sunday’s   sbo  game with host Russia. They had been humbled by being outscored 10-2 in those losses. They had been doubly humbled to fall to Slovenia, a team that earned its first Olympic victory at their expense.

Some expected Slovakia to get rolled again, with the angry Russians bouncing back from a shootout loss to Team USA just 24 hours earlier.

Instead, the Slovaks hunkered down, got defensive, gave the hosts a hell of a scare and reestablished some   sbo  semblance of pride heading into the qualification round against the Czechs on Feb. 18.

“It mattered to us – and we wanted to prove to ourselves we could play better hockey than we showed in the first two games,” said Meszaros, after the 1-0 shootout loss to Russia (2-1-0). “I think we showed everybody that we can play with anybody. Hopefully, the next game we play the same way and are going to have success.”

The Slovaks tightened their defense, despite giving up 36 shots. Russia had five power plays and didn’t convert.

“We weren’t definitely happy with how we played and we knew we had to do something to play better defensively,” said Marian Hossa.

“We knew if we played well defensively, especially in the neutral zone,  sbo  we were going to frustrate them. I think that’s what we did pretty much the whole game. They tried sometimes to go individually and that’s what we wanted.”

Hossa said it’s a matter of knowing your opponent; and when your opponent has the arsenal that Russia does, it means not even thinking about going goal for goal with them.

“Defensively, we did everything that the coach asked us to do. The penalty kill was really good, obviously. We know we didn’t generate as many chances but we knew we cannot play open hockey against a team like that,” said Hossa.

“It shows when we do the system right, it’s not pretty but we don’t have a team to play tic-tac-toe hockey so we have to play this way and hope to score some goals.”

Another factor in the  sbo  Slovaks’ improved effort: goaltending. Jan Laco, the team’s third stringer, was given a start after Jaroslav Halak and Peter Budaj struggled. Laco plays for Donbass of the KHL, where he’s backing up former Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michael Leighton.

He made 36 saves, playing well and getting help from his defense, like when Meszaros slid to block an Alex Ovechkin shot into an open net in overtime.

“I knew he was there and I knew there was an empty net because our goalie made the first initial save and he fell down there. It was kind of a lucky play,” he said.

Should Laco start again in the qualification round?

“I don’t know. He’s hot. It’s up to the coaches,” said Meszaros.

No matter who starts for the Slovaks, one thing’s clear: There’s still  sbo  some good hockey, and pride, left in their locker room.

“You always have a chance in this tournament I guess no matter what you do in your first two games, you can still move along if you win that do or die game. We have to get ready for that and play our best hockey,” said Zdeno Chara.

Bae Sang-moon is off to another  sbobet  great start at the Northern Trust Open. The next step is a better finish.

Bae played bogey-free on another gorgeous day at Riviera for a 5-under 66, giving him a one-shot lead over Aaron Baddeley among the early starters. Baddeley, who won at Riviera three years ago, birdied his last four holes for a 65.

Dustin Johnson, who led after the opening round at 66, played in the afternoon.

Bae was at 9-under 133.

The 27-year-old South Korean was tied for the lead going into the weekend at Riviera last year. Bae struggled to a 76 in the third round and never got back  sbobet  into contention.

”It was really, really good experience, and I learned a lot,” Bae said. ”I improved a lot from last year.”

He wound up winning the Byron Nelson Championship a few months later for his first PGA Tour victory.

Patience surely will be required at some point over the weekend on what has shaped up as one of the best weeks of weather at Riviera – an abundance of sunshine and only a trace of wind. But the course  sbobet  figured to get tougher for the leaders in the afternoon as the greens get more foot traffic.

”It’s a strong course, especially when it’s dry and firm like it is,” Baddeley said. ”If you miss it out of position, it’s really hard to get the ball up-and-down. Today was good, because I made a couple good saves but coming in, I had some good looks and made them.”

Even among those who played early, it was hard to break away. A dozen players were within five shots of the lead, with half of the field still to finish the second round.

Baddeley was in the middle of the pack until he hit his approach on the 15th hole to about 8 feet. He followed with a short birdie putt on the par-3 16th, rolled in a birdie putt from 15 feet on the par-5 17th and finished it off with a 25-foot birdie  sbobet  on the 18th.

Charlie Beljan, who lost in a playoff last year, had a 68 and was two shots behind. Brian Harman had a 69 and was another shot back.

Jordan Spieth managed to get in the mix, especially after he was on the cusp of leaving early. The 20-year-old Texan had tough par putts on four straight holes at the start of his round. When he finally missed one on the fourth hole for his first bogey, he took off. Spieth birdied four of his last five   sbobet  holes for a 66, leaving him in the large group that was at 4-under 138.

”I putted great today, a lot of par saves on the front,” Spieth said. ”I could have been 4- or 5-over at the turn, and instead I was at even, so very happy with the finish. Back in contention.”

Not so fortunate was Fred Couples, who had the low score in the group with Spieth and Webb Simpson until a poor finish. Couples made double bogey on No. 5, and then made bogey on his last hole for a 72 that left him at 2-over 144, which was likely to miss the cut.

Most frustrating for Couples was a tiny cut on the tip of his left thumb that opened up to the size of a dime, making it difficult for him to hang onto the club. Couples has gone his entire Hall of Fame career without wearing a glove.

Asked if it bothered him, he said, ”Yeah. I couldn’t hit the ball.”  sbobet  Couples made his 32nd appearance in this tournament.

SBO REPORT:Tales of childhood bullying reveal the ugly side

SBO REPORT:Tales of childhood bullying reveal the ugly side of figure skating

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

For the brief snapshot in time  sbo  that is the Winter Olympics, figure skaters are among the most-watched athletes on the planet. They are the focus of the attention, and sometimes adulation, of a global audience.

But for many male figure skaters, there is a price to be paid for pursuing their profession. And it cannot be measured in dollars, practice hours or physical toil.

Outdated public perceptions often draw an automatic association between figure skating and homosexuality, and that can lead to bullying among youngsters who compete in the sport.

“Even if you’re a figure skater and you’re not gay, you’re called gay all the time or you’re made fun of for being a figure skater,” said Johnny Weir,   sbo  the former U.S. Olympian who is openly gay and married his husband Victor Voronov in 2011.

“I’ve been in the sport long enough and know enough straight people in the sport that it’s very grating on your psyche to constantly be told something that you’re not and made fun of for something that you aren’t.”

[Related: The world loves figure skating, according to Facebook]

American pairs skater Simon Shnapir, who won a bronze medal with Marissa Castelli and the rest of the U.S. squad in the team competition, is 6-foot-3 and about as imposing of a physical specimen as can be found in Olympic figure skating. He played ice hockey as a boy but found the challenge of figure skating appealing to him. He admits his sport of choice led to some  sbo  unkind teasing from his peers.

“It is just the stereotype of the male athletes in this sport, what they look like,” Shnapir said. “Maybe the way they dress. It [the taunting] is always, ‘Do you wear tights?’ Stuff like that.

“It was a challenge. It was boys being boys. Once I grew up, people started appreciating what sports is about.”

For gay skaters, the abuse’s effect isn’t so harmless and can have tragic consequences. Jamie Hubley, a 15-year-old openly gay figure skater from Ottawa, committed suicide in 2011 due to depression caused by constant harassment over his sexuality and his sport. His father Allan told CBC News in Canada that bullies tried to stuff batteries down his son’s throat on the school bus.

“[Jamie] was the kind of boy that loved everybody,” Allan Hubley   sbo  said. “He couldn’t understand why everyone would be so cruel to him about something as simple as skating.”

[Related: Plushenko retires after injury at Sochi Olympics]

The feminine qualities of figure skating feeds the stigma, but American society has made significant strides toward greater acceptance when it comes to LGBT rights. Even still, casual epithets are thrown around and male figure skaters, whether gay or not, get caught in the crossfire.

Israeli skater Evgeni Krasnopolski was bullied in his homeland and also suffered some abuse after moving to Hackensack, N.J., following high school to further his career. He admits the situation has improved and is no longer subject to slurs from strangers.

“Now it is a different story. Everyone knows me and the way I live,” Krasnopolski said. “I would get in a lot of fights   sbo  after I hear ‘gays’ and stuff like that. In the beginning nobody knows me. I have enough hockey players who are friends now [who] before shouted out some gay [stuff].”

American pairs skater Nathan Bartholomay, who skated with Felicia Zhang here and placed 12th, believes the higher standard that male figure skaters reach, the less likely they are to be picked on.

“Especially if you are in an elite training environment,” Bartholomay said. “I can’t tell you how often the hockey guys come and watch us.

“I have had a couple of people ask me [if I was gay]. I have a lot of friends who are gay and I don’t take offense to it. If it is a stereotype, a lot of people  sbo  just brush it off – be who you are and let your skates talk.”

SBO REPORT:Flyers win fourth straight heading

SBO REPORT:Flyers win fourth straight heading into Olympic break

sbo,sbobet,ผลบอล,แทงบอล,พรีเมียร์ลีก

The Philadelphia Flyers have plenty of  sbo  positives to think about for the next three weeks.

Brayden Schenn and Scott Hartnell scored goals and goaltender Ray Emery made 32 saves to lead the Flyers to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday in the last game before an 18-day Winter Olympics break.

The Flyers (30-23-6) have won four straight games and are among the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference going into the layoff. While five players are going to Russia to play in the Games, others are going to take a vacation.

Many players would rather keep playing.

“It sucks having to stop now,” right winger Wayne Simmonds said. “Obviously, we want to carry some momentum in, but when we get back, I keep saying we’ve   sbo  just got to focus in and when we have that week of practice, we’ve just got to work our butts off and get back into it.”

Calgary center Matt Stajan scored with 2:26 left to cut it to 2-1.

The Flames (22-29-7) lost for only the second time in eight games and are way behind in the playoff chase in the West.

“Obviously we’d like a win going into the break, but in the last eight games or whatever (we have) six wins, and I think we have to carry that momentum,” Flames center Sean Monahan said. “It’s time to rest our bodies, which will be good for us.”

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead near the midpoint of the second period on Schenn’s 15th goal. Simmonds passed the puck from behind the net to Schenn in the left circle. His one-timer sailed off goalie Reto Berra’s arm and into the net.

“Before and after, I had quite a few opportunities, not just me but our whole line,” Schenn said. “And we’re lucky we got   sbo  one. We feel like we’ve been getting chances as of late. Games before this they just weren’t going in, so it’s nice to get one.”

Claude Giroux was credited with his 20th goal at 4:04 into the third period to make it 2-0, but after the game the goal with given to Hartnell, his 15th. Giroux’s stick seemed to hit another stick as he wound up and fired a shot from the right circle. The puck floated in the air, hit off Hartnell and trickled behind Berra.

Stajan poked a rebound past Emery to snap his shutout bid, but the Flyers held on for the win.

“I think we’ve been playing good hockey. We’ve been in every game,” Stajan said.

Both teams looked ready for a long break, though it doesn’t come at an opportune time for the surging Flyers. They have pulled to within one point of the  sbo  No. 4 spot in the East, and must wait to continue their momentum.

“I think especially during the last stretch of six or seven games we’ve tightened up and really have not given teams that much,” Emery said. “I think it was a great stretch heading into this break. We talked about it before those six or seven games, that we could either put ourselves in a good position or play ourselves out of it. Fortunately, we’ve put ourselves in a pretty good spot going further in the year.”

NOTES: G Ray Emery got his first start since Jan. 23 in place of Steve Mason, who was bothered by cramps and dehydration in Philadelphia’s win over Colorado on Thursday night. … The Flames started the game with their fourth line for a brief shift, but it didn’t turn into anything physical. … LW Michael Raffl (Austria), RW Jakub Voracek (Czech Republic), D Kimmo Timonen   sbo  (Finland), D Andrej Meszaros (Slovakia) and D Mark Streit (Switzerland) are heading to Sochi from the Flyers. … G Reto Berra (Switzerland) and D Ladislav Smid (Czech Republic) are going from the Flames.

Trevor Bayne sped around  sbo  Talladega Superspeedway in his No. 21 Ford getting his car ready for the upcoming season, and then did the same thing in his running shoes.

The 2011 Daytona 500 winner and part-time triathlete is fit, motivated and hungry to contend for another big win upon his return later this month to the scene of his greatest triumph and to challenge for a Nationwide Series championship.

”This is a really big year for us,” Bayne said during a break from Thursday’s solitary testing session.

He’s scheduled to run 12 Sprint Cup races, including all four on the superspeedways, with The Wood Brothers plus a full-time Nationwide schedule for Roush Fenway Racing.

”Being here at Talladega by ourselves today, I think that shows that this team wants to do what it takes to be the best   sbo  and to have a shot to win those 12 races that we show up at,” he said.

The daily workouts, including those squeezed-in runs at racetracks, are also indicative of his thriving health. Bayne went public in November with the revelation that he has multiple sclerosis, but said he still has no symptoms and isn’t taking medication.

An outspoken Christian who often shares his religious testimony in speeches, Bayne said that good health just reinforces his faith. Bayne also said he’s been training harder than ever, meeting three times a week with a personal trainer and  sbo  going on 1.5-mile swims, three-mile runs and 25-plus mile bike rides.

He ran around the 2.66-mile tri-oval Thursday afternoon in near-freezing temperature. But he’s got his next triathlon coming up in April in Charleston, S.C., so clearly multiple sclerosis isn’t slowing him down.

”Fortunately for me at this point, it’s had no impact on me,” Bayne said. ”That’s been a huge blessing, because there are people that have it worse. There are some that never even know they have it and live a perfectly normal life. To know that I have it is good to me because it creates a dependence for me daily on the Lord.”

The 22-year-old, who also got married last year, hasn’t recaptured the winning formula since becoming the youngest  sbo  winner of NASCAR’s biggest race at 20. In fact, he’s only had two Top 10 finishes in his other 45 starts, one of them coming at Talladega in 2012.

Nowhere near old enough to be a has-been, he’s still in the early stages of a career that happened to start in stirring fashion.

”He’s 22, he’s just getting started,” team co-owner Len Wood said. ”Fortunately for him, he started with a bang.

”It was only his second-ever start. That was a big deal when it happened, and if we get him another one, that could be equally as big.”

Bayne will return to Daytona International Speedway in a couple of weeks for the Feb. 23 race.

The restrictor plate races are a priority for The Wood Brothers. They tested at Daytona earlier and then spent two days working the car around the  sbo  tri-oval at Talladega, running solo on Thursday.

Since he won’t be competing in every Sprint Cup race, Bayne will face extra pressure in NASCAR’s overhauled qualifying sessions to make sure he makes the field in his scheduled events.

”That’s why we came down here,” said Eddie Wood, co-owner of the team with his brother. ”To us as an older race team, the Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the year and the biggest of all. Everybody looks at it that way, but I think we take it to another level. That’s basically why we came down here. We went to Daytona in January and tested and had a really good test.

”Coming down here just kind of fills in some blanks that we had so that when we do unload at Daytona you don’t  sbo  feel like you left anything on the table.’
